====== A Minimal Example for Setting Up a Thermal Modulus Computation ====== ~~NOTOC~~ This tutorial provides a quick overview of how to set up a minimal project for a thermal modulus computation. It is not intended to cover a specific casting process in any detail, nor does it deal with the construction of a casting and feeding system. It aims to familiarize the user with the most basic steps involved to build a simple layout from imported geometry in order to compute a thermal modulus solution over its domain. ==== Starting a New Project ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_0.png?600&nolink }} Press the ''New'' button to begin a new project. ==== Assign Materials to Default Domains ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_1.png?600&nolink }} Open the ''Domains'' panel. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_2.png?600&nolink }} Click the label of a ''Domain'' to open its inspector dialog on the right. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_3.png?600&nolink }} Press the ''Select'' button on the ''Material'' entry to open the selector dialog for ''Material'' assignment. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_4.png?600&nolink }} Choose the desired ''Material'' from the available options and confirm with the ''Ok'' button. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_5.png?600&nolink }} Both the ''Default Molding Domain'' [blue] and the ''Default Casting Domain'' [red] require an assigned ''Material''. ==== Importing Model Geometry ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_6.png?600&nolink }} Open the ''Models'' panel. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_7.png?600&nolink }} Click the ''Import'' button to show the ''Open File Dialog''. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_8.png?600&nolink }} Select the files to be imported and confirm the choice by pressing the ''Open'' button. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_9.png?600&nolink }} When the import task is finished, ''Models'' of the imported geometry will appear in the model list. ==== Model Instantiation ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_10.png?600&nolink }} Select the models to designate them for instantiation in the ''Layout''. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_11.png?600&nolink }} Instantiate the selected ''Models'' by pressing the ''Instantiate'' button. This will open the ''Layout Editor'' panel. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_12.png?600&nolink }} The ''Layout Editor'' panel will display ''Origin'' entries for every instantiated ''Model''. ==== Instance Type Specification ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_13.png?600&nolink }} Select an ''Origin'' to designate it for ''Instance'' type assignment. After instantiating a ''Model'' its corresponding ''Origin'' may already be selected. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_14.png?600&nolink }} Select the ''Instances'' entry in the ''Layout'' toolbar. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_15.png?600&nolink }} Choose the ''Instance'' type that is to be assigned to the selected ''Origins'' by clicking its glyph. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_16.png?600&nolink }} After assigning the chosen ''Instance'' type, the selected ''Origins'' will display its glyph and the color of the associated ''Domain''. All ''Origins'' need to be assigned an ''Instance'' type to proceed. ==== Dimensioning the Bounding Box ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_17.png?600&nolink }} Open the ''Basic Settings'' panel. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_18.png?600&nolink }} Press the ''Update Dimensions'' button to fit the mold bounds to the instantiated geometry. ==== Discretization ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_19.png?600&nolink }} Open the ''Discretization'' panel. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_20.png?600&nolink }} Choose a resolution preset. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_21.png?600&nolink }} Press the ''Update'' button to update the ''Design'' discretization. ==== Modulus Computation ==== {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_22.png?600&nolink }} Open the ''Analysis'' menu. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_23.png?600&nolink }} Click the label text of the ''Thermal Modulus'' solution to open its inspector dialog on the right. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_24.png?600&nolink }} Set ''Phase Transition'' to ''Sigmoid''. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_25.png?600&nolink }} Press the ''Update'' button to start the modulus computation. {{ :tutorials:minimal_example_thermal_modulus_computation_26.png?600&nolink }} When the computation task is finished, the modulus field will be displayed projected on the model geometry.
